Description
The gabled façade of the church of San Lorenzo in Borgo Cerreto, in red quoin stones, presents no ornaments other than those finely sculpted on the pointed-arch portal, with fascias of columns in the embrasure and archivolts in the arch, and the small rose window, the effect of which however has been lost with the restoration work.
The interior is typical of the Churches of the minor mendicant orders: it is composed of a spacious rectangular truss-covered nave, and by a choir with rectilinear end, covered by a groin vault with corbels supporting the ribs. Of the altar pieces, remains a Madonna with Saints Anthony of Padua, Fillippo Neri, Francis de Sales and Francis of Assisi.
In the counter-façade, to the right, Madonna of Mercy, from the early 15th century. The right wall contains remains of 14th century votive frescoes, of simple design. In the counter-façade, on the left, Madonna of Loreto, dated 1507; four Saints, from the late 15th century. In the left wall, Saint Dominic, from the early 14th century; Father Eternal and Annunciation.
In the bottom wall of the choir other frescoes can be chronologically distinguished into three groups.
